The Distribution of Documentary and Arthouse Films

The lecture will be focused on the international distribution of creative documentaries and arthouse feature films. Irena Taskovski, manager director of the London based world sales Taskovski Films, will explain the role of the sales agent in the international market, which is for this kind of cinema strongly fragmented and niche-targeted.

During the lecture the different characteristics of sales companies and their relationship with producers/directors will be examined: how to choose your sales agent (achievements, targeted audience), on which stage of the production to approach (early is better than too late!) and how to start the collaboration.

During the lecture we will examine the crucial decision in the first steps: National Premiere, World Premiere - how to create for your film a longer festival life. In order to offer a practical perspective, Irena will analyze some successful cases studies: Czech Dream by Vit Klusak and Filip Remunda, Katka by Helena Trestikova, People I Could Have Been and Maybe I Am by Borris Gerrets.

Date and venue: 1 October 1.00 pm Lithuanian Filmmakers Union (Vasario 16 str. 13).

Organiser „Skalvija“ cinema centre. Partner Media Desk Lithuania.
